Recently a new customer asked if I carried a particular type of soap.   The customer was elated when she learned that I had the soap that she wanted in stock.  Prior to her purchase, I had planned to discontinue that type of soap.  Once the customer received the soap, she responded with ordering a larger batch, along with a standing order for future soap.

If you are having difficulty finding what you are looking for, please ask.  If I do not carry the soap that you want, I will make sure I carry it, or that I make it available to you personally.

In the example above, I now have another happy client.  One that can stop searching for her type of soap.

What is on your wish list?

I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving!

Goat Milk Lotion

Goat Milk Lotion

Announcement:

I am holding a 50% off clearance sale on goat milk lotions.

The scents included in the sale are:

  • Sweet Pea
  • Lavender
  • Vanilla
  • Lilac
  • Honeysuckle
  • Berries and Cherries
  • Citrus

In some scents, both 4 oz and 8 oz bottles are available.

Why the sale? The expiration dates on the clearance priced lotions are 5/2010 and 7/2010.  These are nice creamy lotions, seemingly fresh as the date they were bottled.

Natural, handcrafted lotions, especially those containing goat milk, should always be sold with an expiration date.    I apply an expiration date of one year from the date bottled.

You can find the lotions on my website, or by going directly to my website’s online store.  Select the category “discounted products,” or search for the scent you are looking for.

Let me know if you have any questions.  Thank you!

Mr. Yellow Tom At It Again

Mr. Yellow Tom At It Again

Mr. Yellow Tom becomes my subject matter from time to time.  He has an agenda, so do I.  More on that boy in a bit…

One word sums up my week so far, busy!

This blog is a communication tool that I treasure.  I publish business information, farm updates, and occasionally personal tidbits.  I do Facebook and Twitter, and I love those connections as well, but the glue that bonds me to everyone is much stickier in this blog.  My website is a good communication tool, as well as the newsletter, but again, this blog is the creme’ of it all.

I do not pre-plan a lot of blog posts, well, one or two, here or there.  I prefer to pop in and say, “Hey…this is what is going on!” When I am too busy to do that, I feel a bit disconnected.

I do not know if the disconnected feeling is good or bad.  Shoot, it does not matter! What matters is I am back and reconnecting.  I am still working on cleaning up my email in-basket, amongst some other connections.  So…if you get a message that says, “I am busy, have to keep this short for now…,” it’s true.  I care immensely, just going at rabbit speed instead of turtle mode.

I was watching Mr. Yellow Tom as I milked the girls this evening.  How can it be that the meanest young adult cat in the barn be the mother to all of the kittens? A kitten will come up and bat at Mr. Tom, he bats back, and then he starts licking.  In this photo he licked the young kitten to sleep.  Yes, Mr. Tom walked away, and the kitten did not stir.  She was out of it!! Funny stuff! And this is the same Mr. Yellow Tom that still looks for that yellow cat in the bumper of my truck.  And guess what? He has taught the kittens to line up below the truck and watch with him.  The farm clown, Mr. Yellow Tom.

And what does he have to do with busyness? He has an agenda, and he gets it done, and he still makes his connections, obviously! Perhaps I should hire him? I could use a part-time helper, one that loves like he does.  Only the best.

Enjoy your day!

Annie's Goat Hill Handcrafted Soap Website

Annie's Goat Hill Handcrafted Soap Website

My website is easy to navigate, but you just never know when a little help might be needed.

I have a site map.  The link to the site map is included on my main navigation bars, found at the top and bottom of each web page.  The site map is an outline of the website’s pages.  If you are in need of information on my site, try the site map as a starting point.

The goat milk soap store lists up to 100 products available.  The items are automatically categorized in alphabetical order starting with soap, gift sets, lotion, and discounted products.   To find a particular category, use the category drop down menu to select a category.  All of the products available within that category will be displayed.  If you are looking for a particular scent or ingredient, the store also has a search box.  For example, search for lavender.  Every product containing lavender will be displayed.  I never list products that are not in stock.

The website also includes a news page, which I keep updated whenever prices, items or company policies change.  For example, when I created the “Y” A Sale?  (discount) section in the soap store, I explained “why a sale” on the website’s news page (and on my blog).

Speaking of news, there is a button to sign up for my newsletter on the index page.   I generally make announcements via the newsletter first, then (if needed) I announce the information on this blog, then (if needed) I update the news page on the website.

If you want to contact me, there is a contact us page on the website.  And, there is an About page on this blog as well that has a contact link.  Email is something many of my clients have learned to treasure as a communication tool directly with me.

For those of you considering a website.  It is a big, big job! It must be maintained and updated regularly.  I have a long list of link backs and other information to update.  Remember this, a good website is never done! If you say the words “it is complete,” unless you plan to ignore your website, it is never finished!

Has this post been helpful? Can I cover anything else for you?

Google Rankings

I have to throw this in…I have to!! I have worked so hard on my website. I have NO idea what I am doing, but I do it…whatever IT is!!! I started out on page 9 with the Google search, then 19, then 25, then I started moving up. Today, when I did a search on goat milk soap, I found Annie’s Goat Hill on page 1 of the Google search! Big sigh…it has been a lot of hard work, and I am going to have to work even harder to keep the search engines happy!!! Thank you to everyone that has helped me with links, linking back, etc…, thank you to everyone for your support.

I received an email yesterday from a client that melted my heart. She said, “It is so refreshing to actually be doing business with a real person.” She told me that my soaps are helping her skin, her children’s skin, and even her grandchildren. My heart is filled with joy. Why? Because there is nothing more important to me than to hear words of happiness. I want to make a difference. Everything else falls into place later.

Today I am launching a new blog category, skin and hair care!

It has become obvious to me that my clients are very interested in getting down to the basics in life, including the natural care of their skin and hair.  In the skin and hair care category I will be posting discussions that share my knowledge and experience of skin care that brings us as close to natural as possible.

At Annie’s Goat Hill Handcrafted Soaps, I provide the basic products (soap and skin care), and I will provide education for skin care, recipes and potions that contain common ingredients, most found at your local grocery store!

I am a strong believer in naturally erasing a part of what comes into our lives that can (and has) been damaging to our skin and hair.  Damage from chemicals, the sun, stress, and age!

I am excited, as I hope you are, to start this venture.  I hope I can help many! And I hope you and I grow from this experience together!

shredded-documents_~k0521243

Excerpt from an article that I read this week:  In the U.S., 32 percent of the waste we produce is a form of packaging.  http://tiny.cc/cYI9w

We are all responsible, and I wish we were all responsible.

To assist with the green effort, and with keeping my company products and operations as basic as possible, shipping and packaging includes:

– Kraft paper soap boxes, biodegradable.  Hand stamped with the company logo (the goat in the logo is from Annie’s Goat Hill, a pen and ink drawn up by a wonderful artist).

– Shredded newspaper (mainly from the thousands of sale adds that seem to inundate us each and every day) – provides a wonderful cushion to products.  Shredding the paper, long ways, seems to require even less packaging.

– Cellophane bags that enclose the products, keeping the shredded paper out.  The bags are bio-degradable.

– Wooden crates (mainly sold in craft stores) containing gift sets, constructed by my husband from reclaimed wood.  Much of the wood comes from quality pine pallets that we pick up (free for the taking).  Some of the wood used for the crates comes from old barn siding and materials from dismantled older buildings.

– Cardboard boxes are reused for shipping if they are in decent shape, however, I do prefer the USPS Priority boxes because #1, they come to me free, #2, they are of sound quality.  I have not checked yet, I hope the boxes are a product from green efforts as well.

– Simple, basic packaging.  Nothing junky, clunky, yet allows the quality of the product to shine through.

– Natural and scrap materials are used for the bag ties.

If it can be reused in taste, I do so! Good basic soap…and good common green sense.  It is a start!

Spike The Boxer Dog
Spike The Boxer Dog

One short word – fun! Good UGLY fun!

The winners of a bar of honey oatmeal goat milk soap are:  Lynnanne and Gillian!

Lynnanne came so close with her comment, “It’s your boxer, laying on the couch…chin in the air…sleeping.”  And a lot of comments were very close.  So, I ended up printing the closest comments, cut them into strips, and then my husband drew the names.  Gillian’s comment, “It looks like a pug to me, laying upside down and playing.”

Spike is one goofy screwball! He plays the upside down game almost every night, as he emits a sound unlike a cross between a hissing cat and the air brakes of a tractor trailer.  The big ugly lug! At least he looks better in the upright position.

Vickie, I am glad I did not have a mouth full of coffee as I read your comment! “Looks like he could use some dental work-ha!” Oh yes, he has some terrible teeth.  Ha.  Or should I said, DID HAVE terrible teeth?!

Corrie said, “That, Mary, is an upside down toothless cat who is getting his tummy scratched! LOL.”  Ha ha ha!!!

Alix said, “I’m thinking upside down baby kitten yawning or looking to hookup with mama. Am I close?” No!!!! But then, Alix added, “My soap was stolen by my sister.  I need to win.” Sister Mo will never live that one down! By the way, Bob and I had a good giggle after I repeated the stolen soap story to him.

This was fun, and I will do it again!

Thank you to everyone for participating.

The soap will be mailed tomorrow! Lynnanne, I almost have your address memorized.   Gillian, I will send an email to you today.

Next on the agenda…the story of the yellow cat in the truck bumper.  Animals, where would I be without them? Perhaps a bit more sane?
