What do coffee pots, platters and websites have in common? Nothing, but I smile as I say that.

My eyes are tired. I started working on the website this morning at 7:15 A.M., I just now finished my project. The navigation has been updated, with an easier to read site map added. If you visit some time, please let me know if you find a broken link or see something that needs repairing.

My feet and legs are cold. I never get cold inside the house, but a day of sitting at the desk has done me in. I have an oil filled heater behind me, I turned it up on high about an hour ago. The corner that my office sits in is the oldest corner in my house. I would venture to say it could be 100 years old. Anyhow, it is a whopping 8 degrees now, wind chill -4. The sunshine is pretty though, quite the fooler! And…I am jumping for joy…I just saw that we are having a heat wave tomorrow, 29 degrees is the expected high! The girls will be back outside, stretching those poor leg muscles back out!

I took several pictures this week of different areas of the house, along with things that I like to collect. The coffee pot and platter in this picture came from the same place as the chair and mirror (blog post several days ago). The man that owned all of these things lived in a very old renovated barn. That coffee pot sat on top of the huge cast iron stove in the dairy room for many years. I love it, and I was thrilled to have been given it!

I am excited to tell that I received a wonderful “Good Pack” today from Anne-Marie, CEO, Brambleberry. I have not had the opportunity yet today to open the bottles of essential oils and fragrances, but it is going to happen within the next several hours! You betcha’! Anne-Marie sent a lovely bar of soap, a soap mold, and some colorants as well. I will share all of these items with you, as well as showcase the very much appreciated hand written card within the next several days! Anne-Marie is an absolute inspiration to me. I never expected anything from commenting on Anne-Marie’s Soap Queen blog, my comments come from my heart. I truly treasure the Good Pack! Thank you!

Well, that wraps up the news in my part of Ohio for the day! I need to do some reading and commenting. From the looks of the thumbnail pics, everyone has been busy! πŸ™‚

Sunday On The Farm

Sunday…the day of rest. I try to not write a lot on a Sunday. Not talking much is difficult for me. Enough said about that. πŸ™‚

It is a cold morning here in Ohio. We just put a front behind us that brought rain, ice, and fog with it. This morning the remnant is frozen mud. I do not mind the cold, in the 20’s, nor the frozen mud. The temporary lack of mud is a good thing, and it will be back later this evening!

This is a picture of Annie’s kids from several years ago. She always has beautiful twin kids, normally bucks.

On the subject of kids, I have several things in alignment today (and this week). A full moon, boer goats that have not started kidding yet, udders coming in, ligaments loosening, and at least one (as of this morning) with an udder that tells me kids within 24-48 hours. Last but not least, we are going to see single digit mornings this week.

As an 8-year on the job farmer, I have learned several things. One is to watch the weather forecast. In the summer it can mean running the water hoses to the vegetable garden. In the winter it can mean plugging the barn monitor in to ensure I do not have newborn kids with frozen ears. It definitely takes calendars, weather forecasts, and my attention. If I get quiet, or if I start writing weird things, you’ll know the ball has started rolling. I don’t mind a correction now and then, I might need it! πŸ™‚

Take care…and have a beautiful Sunday!

This week I am busy working in the office on business plans, the website and organization.

On my way to the kitchen on a break today I passed a few of my eclectic items. The first are the chairs.

This chair is rather old. I do not know how old but I did find a similar one dating around 1903 in an antique guide.

I bought the chair at an auction for $5.00. πŸ™‚ The mirror came from the same auction. It did not cost me a thing. Just some convincing. The finish on the mirror is gone. The frame is cracked. I really do not care, the more worn, the more I like it. The seat of the chair could be restrung, as everyone keeps telling me. Nope, I do not want that done either. It is original, and I love it!

I always wanted an old house. I now have one. But what happens is, you start seeing all of the imperfections, and then you start wondering where your head was at! I have hardwood floors in the front of the house, some that need sanding and refinishing. And…when walls were removed in the “old” part of the house (way before my time) the floors were uncovered leaving floor boards that run in two different directions where they join in the middle. More on the house stories some day…and there are plenty!

Anyhow, I thought I would take you inside to see one of my passions. Old things, crazy things, primitives, very dear to my heart!

You Too Mom?

Mooshie Moo says, “You too, mom?”

It was one of those days!

Occasionally I have a day where I need to be a bit more careful with what I write, or what I do. The complexity level has to be kept to a minimum on these days. I can easily walk into walls, stumble on my own shoe strings. One of my best friends, Bob, calls it, “Feeling like I am in my own road.” Yep, that was today, and I can truly connect with that statement!

On these types of days I listen to my head and body. I back out and become a goat mommy, or a boxer dog mommy (we have 3). I read a book, take a nap, and perhaps write something in a safe place (to be copied to the blog, or a document on another day).

For those of you that are also Baby Boomers, can I say, “I could not get the groove on”?!

Funny, funny…and I do find it hilarious!

Wow…such a blessing of a day in Ohio today. The sun is shining. I hear the neighbor powering up the chain saw, apparently cutting fallen branches, clearing. Tells me that I need to do a somewhat similar job later, burn a bit of a pile. That is, if the wind dies down some. Again, reminds me of April, not December. I love it!

Today was aptly named “Save Face Monday” because I worked on a small batch of face cream in the shop this afternoon. I am hoping the formula thickens up in the next 72 hours. It looks and smells great, but it is a bit more soupy than I would have liked. Soupy isn’t the right word for it either. Hmmm…let’s go for very lightly whipped, not heavy. I was looking for something more in-between. For a face cream, I do not like much scent, but I am extremely happy with the outcome of this one. The lotions are now where I want them to be, light for body and hands, but not so light that it runs off of the palm of the hand when when a dollup is held sideways. Onto the creams… .

I am having writer’s problems today. Lost for words!

Went to the grocery this morning. I was thinking about a blip that another friendly blogger shared regarding saving money, making ends stretch, especially during this economy. I began using coupons again, the first time in 7 years. And before I head to the store now, I plan, and part of that includes checking the recipe books for fairly simple meals that can stretch over several days. It feels good to be out of the restaurants as often as we were, and it also feels better when buttoning up the jeans! My husband is a very picky eater. There isn’t much more to be said about that. πŸ™‚ With the sense of humor in mind, I announced to him, “You will no longer know what you are going to eat for dinner, until it is being prepared.” He replied, “Just make sure I have peanut butter and jelly on hand.” Oh boy…rotten (but I like him)!

Off to prepare to feed the goats for now. Perhaps my writing brain will open up later this evening.

Sunday Morning

This seems like an April morning, unlike a late December morning. We had a cold front push through a few hours ago. The wind is still whoosing like mad, but I love to hear it! The house is still very warm. I do not think I have heard the furnace run since yesterday morning. I threw the windows open around 9:00 last night. An hour or so later we lost power. Glad to see everything back on track this morning.

When the power went off I could hear our ducks having a good old time down on our pond. I think it was party central out there last night! The crazy quackers! πŸ™‚

Our weekend patterns are pretty much set in cement. We spend most Saturday evenings with friends at our house, playing silly card games, giggling at each other, and at funny stories. We spend many of our Sunday afternoons with another couple, working on the antique tractor (pics later today) and shooting the breeze. I guess when you get older you do these fuddie duddy sorts of things! Have a great Sunday! πŸ™‚

A Beautiful Morning

Good Morning!

Today is my “big boys” turn on the blog. Spike is a gentle lug! At 80-100 lbs, his looks meet up to his name, but he leans towards liking to be smooshy. The girls rule the roost in their boxer queendom around here.

It feels good to wake up to a new day. Today I am going to “detox,” not literally…but there is going to be a lot of water guzzled, less caffeine, and the plans are for NO junk food.

I posted an ingredient article this morning. The topic is distilled water. I started it a day ago, just did not publish at that point. Surprisingly, it got placed in the spot where I started it, not where I wanted it to be published today. Going to head now to move it around…hoping for it to not be buried!

Contest Winner

The winner for this week’s Wash Your Monday Blues Away contest is Fondaleette D., from Michigan! Within moments of the contest start time yesterday morning, Fondaleette found the GC initials inbedded on the My Herd photo album page on the Annie’s Goat Hill website. She whipped that email right out to me! πŸ™‚ Fondaleette chose a bar of baby powder scented goat milk soap. Fondaleette is a great friend, one I have known for several years. She is a busy grandmother, mother, and is a sister to Amy, the winner from last week’s contest. She also tries to send a lot of her Michigan snow down to Ohio, despite me asking her not to! Congratulations, Fondaleette!
