Let’s forget about the snow and winter dreariness. Instead, let’s have some fun strolling down memory lane.
Basic contest outline:
- The winner will receive a bar of lavender goat milk soap and a 4 oz. bottle of goat milk lotion.
- The winner will be drawn randomly.
- To enter contest: leave a comment on this post. Not just any comment. You must tell what your favorite piece of clothing (or outfit) was from your youth (or past), and why. You must tell what your least favorite clothing was (you know, those cases where you had to wear something that you didn’t want to wear). And, you must describe your most outrageous piece of clothing from your youth.
- Contest begins February 18 1:00 A.M., Eastern Standard Time. Contest ends February 19 8:00 P.M., Eastern Standard Time.
Any questions?
Have fun!
Hmmm…well my favorite was a pair of jean that I sewed pockets to the legs. Two on each side. Loved them!
Least favorite, was dresses. I was too tom-boyish. I always wore shorts under. I hated them. Well, them and a bra. I fought that for the longest time. tee hee
And most outrageous? Hmmm, the only thing I can think of was my high-heeled flip flops. But that seems to be the norm in today’s world. Those and high-heeled tennis shoes like you have shown.
Oh oh, about the time I dug up the platform sneaker photo I thought, “If those are back in style this pic won’t seem outrageous. You just gave me the answer to that one.
I thought this contest would be fun, and interesting. And it already is! Yep…it is.
You sewed pockets to the legs of your jeans?! I would love to see them. Seriously. I altered one item of clothing that I remember well. I’ll write about it later today. The things we did to be “cool.” Ha!
Hmmmmm, I would have to say that my favorite outfit was a white dress with pretty spring flowers on it. I remember that I wanted to wear it every week to church.
My least favorite thing I wore was the tight leggings with a long sweatshirt. Ah, the 80s. LOL!
The 80’s. I loved the long sweatshirt/sweaters with the leggings (stirrup pants). The jeans were incredibly tight and straight legged though.
I’ll jump in and tell my “clothes” story later in the comments.
I liked my jumper and barrett that my Mom made and skirts and vests which I still have some of them to this day, they were so nice and comfortable and I liked anything purple too still kind of do but don’t wear it a whole lot now.
I don’t really have a least favorite piece of clothing though. I didn’t really have a most outrageous outfit either in my Youth though.
Amy
Hello, Amy. I’ll take what you said and enter you in the contest. Are you sure you wore nothing outrageous? Just kidding.
I had a pair of shoes my mom bought me when I went off to college. They were flat, suede blue boots with faux fur inside. I kept them for nine years. I loved them. Rick called them my ‘Rip Van Winkle’ boots. He hated them. One day, I went to my closet to wear them, and I could only find one of them. Turns out, my dear husband had thrown ONE shoe away. I was not a happy camper and still hold that against him 30+ years later. That incident was almost divorce material.
My favorite garment was a coat I made in high school. It was camel colored polyester, double-breasted with big buttons, and warm. But it was ugly. My first attempt at making a coat.
My least favorite was a dress my mother-in-law passed down to me. Belted at the waist, split up the front, pea green, made out of what seemed to be bathrobe material, and one I wore once and quickly discarded. She kept asking me ‘where’s that green dress I gave you? You know. The cute one.’
I am soooo glad I swallowed my soda BEFORE I read your comments, Debbie! I absolutely can not stop laughing.
He threw one of your boots away?!
The green dress…hilarious!!! And I am sure you had a ton of fun skirting around that question! Bathrobe material!!! Ha ha ha!!!!
My red Michael Jackson zipper jacket by far was my favorite piece of clothing. I thought I was so cool! Lol
My least favorite was when I was younger I was a bit plump and my mom would buy me polyester pants to wear because they were stretchy. Lol
My most outrageous was when I was about 13 or 14 and decided to wear camo…Camo pants, green shirt and camo jacket…all stolen from a brother in the army. But I was still very girly, wearing lots and lots of makeup and had the big 80s hair do. :0)
I am having a lot of fun with this…
I love it!
Camo clothes with a big 80’s do. And a Michael Jackson red jacket. Slick.
By the way, I received your order today. I am holding on giving you a ship date (will likely be Saturday). I had a surge of orders on 16 oz lotions. New bottles were to be delivered to me yesterday. They were not received due to a snow Emergency Level 3. The lotion will be made fresh and sent out as soon as possible.
I had forgotten about polyester pants! How about a polyester “casual” suit for men?
I thought I remembered a few favorite “duds.” Once everyone started commenting I remembered way too many!
To pick and choose:
When I was in junior high school I was into the hippie look. I snatched one of my father’s fatique jackets (Army) and sewed an american flag to one of the sleeves. I began wearing that thing to school. My mother was horrified. I was proud as could be. My purse topped the look, fake suede, with foot long “fringe.” I cannot remember my shoes for some reason.
In my very young school years I remember a pale lavender tweed jumper dress that mom made. I wore the dress often. It had a matching white cotton blouse, lavender with velvet trim. I nearly cried when I outgrew it. After that, for many years I favored the color lavender. The color became unpopular for a while.
Then, on to high school, a couple of stories.
I was picky about jeans. They had to be long with very wide bell bottom legs. I had just finished school shopping, which consisted of a budget of $50.00 for the year. I was proud of my purchases. My mother was thrifty. She had a 100 lb tub of laundry detergent delivered. The first time I washed all of my clothes with the new detergent I discovered that it was in fact dishwashing detergent. It contained bleach. Replacement clothes were a must. Because the budget was gone I had to purchase very inexpensive “granny” jeans. I didn’t want to go to school. Funny? Now, yes!
In high school we were into shoes, any kind of platform shoe you could think of, and weather did not matter. One pair of shoes were a tall platform sandal, which were both sparkly and flowered. I could barely walk from the car to the school front door on icy days, but I did it. What was I thinking?
Funny times, good memories! And great to share!
Oh, what fun!
Fav. – I had this outfit when I was about 5 in the late 70s. It was a kelly green knit running short with white trim and it had a matching white tshirt with 3 green/yellow stripes across the front & a #3. I loved that outfit and always wanted to wear it. It’s very dated! I have a picture of it when we went to Miami Seaquarium. I go there now with my DD and they have many of the same exhibits.
Another fav was a navy blue dress with a white peter pan collar and red trim. I wore it in kindergarten, and the memory brings back the smell of paste and snacks of celery with cream cheese.
Hate – Any item I was wearing during an embarrassing moment, I would never wear again. I wet my pants in elem. school – never wore that brown flowered dress again. A bird pooped on me while I wore a striped sleevless top – never wore it again. You get the picture.
Craziest – I never dressed “crazy”, but for unusual I guess it was a pair of brown corderoy knickers that I made my mother sew for me when I was in 4th grade. I wanted knickers so bad!!! The pattern actually included a jacket, vest and one of those paperboy hats, but my mom only made the knickers. I wore them with tights and a brown plaid shirt that had a subtle, metallic gold stripe in it.
I’m a little jealous of Joy and her Michael Jackson jacket. I really wanted one of those, but my mom wouldn’t get it. 😦
Your memories sound great, Erica! You know, we really do remember clothing with occasions, and experiences.
I used to think the days I wore my Girl Scout uniform to school (and I was proud to do it) were really “lucky” days.
Love the story of your knickers and brown plaid shirt!
Most Favorite – white go-go boots for sure
Least Favorite – any kind of pantyhouse, or tights.
Most Outrageous – well, what other people think is outrageous and what I think is outrageous is two different things. Presently, I wear thermal-underwear pants as leggings, they come in all sorts of colors, and I wear ’em with denim dress jumpers, I don’t think it’s outrageous but…I get looks.
Looks or no, Joanna, it sounds warm. Who cares what they think? Let ’em look.
White go-go boots. I had forgotten about those! I always wanted a pair too, sounds like you enjoyed yours. Those boots are made for walking…now I hear that song in my head.
Have a wonderful day!
Sing it Nancy! lol
Back in that same timeframe that you’re singing 🙂 , there were the Gold Diggers. Remember? Well, if I’m not mistaken, they had gold bikinis and my grandmother bought my cousin and I these bikinis. Metallic gold… and we filled them out nicely, with our 8-year-old selves. lol
Favorites: black paten-leather shoes. My mother used to hide them from me because I didn’t believe they should be saved for Sundays and Easter. lol
Disliked: Anything my mom picked out for me (usually goofy dresses). I was independent at a very young age. lol She was thrilled when I became old enough to take myself shopping.
Forgive me for saying this, we are getting old! I’ll duck, quickly!!!
Ahhh…the Gold Diggers, some sort of back up singers for Dean Martin. I pictured the singers and then asked my husband, he said the same thing. They wore skimpy outfits. I also think they wore white go-go boots (Joanna).
Black patent shoes! I loved them too. I remembering wearing them once with shorts. Did we think we were the cat’s meow? Yes!
You, independent? Naw! Of course not.
I have some wild pants though! I have a lacy dress from when I was probably 2 years old that my Mom made and she made my sister a blue one just like it, mine was pink and I still have it and my 8 year old niece got to wear it and I have a nice sweater I have which I’ve had since being adopted from Korea which my 8 year old niece got to wear as well.
Amy
Amy, we’ll have to come back to the talk about the wild pants some day. Ha!
And the winner is…Becky…of Twisted Fencepost!!!!
I love random drawings. Fair and square.
I also enjoy fun contests, where we learn a bit about ourselves, and fond (or not so fond) memories are brought to the surface.
Thank you for your contributions and entries!
Thank you, Mary!
That was a lot of fun reading everyone’s comments!
Congrats Becky!!!!
Hello, Lynnanne! Becky hasn’t ever tried my soap. Think she will like it?
She’ll love it Mary and congrats to Becky! Ha about the crazy pants though, I think I gave them away along with a bunch of other clothing to a 2nd hand shop.
Amy
Thank you, Amy. Funny!
