I made an announcement a few days ago that I was going to work all weekend to free myself up for Monday (today) and Tuesday. My statement ended with, “To free myself up for the blessings ahead.”
Eight words to describe the employment situation for many…jobs are not growing on trees these days.
Unemployment statistics are released quarterly, monthly, etc…, but I know first-hand that the statistics do not nearly include all that are unemployed. For example, they do not include those that cannot collect unemployment, those that are not eligible to apply for benefits.
My husband and I shut down a business right before the economy crashed. He hit the books, studied, took classes, and passed tests, just to find that his new career path had hit an all-time low.
But now we are fighting back, fighting back with our own fireballs.
What we have been working on is a new business that will ensure my husband is up and working again. His new skills will be put to use. I am a firm believer that there is good in all bad. Frustration and bitterness does not lead to good. What does lead to good is determination…a listening ear and eyes (our own), to what we are really supposed to be doing in life.
If I seem a bit distracted, I am. Is it affecting the farm and Annie’s Goat Hill Handcrafted Soaps? No. I am just a tad bit slower with email and comments on the blog this week.
Life is a beautiful thing. Sometimes we have to pull up the bootstraps and say, “I have had enough. I am determined to make my life a good one!” Determination, sheer will-power!
And, yes, we can use all of the prayers, good wishes, and positive thoughts that you might want to send!
Sending up prayers, making good wishes and thinking positive thoughts for you and your hubby. I hope things turn out better than expected!!!
As I’ve said before, you inspire me. My economic situation is bleak but I’m staying organized, putting one foot in front of the other, reaching out to old contacts and looking for opportunity in this crisis. Please know I’m thinking of you and read you daily.
Martha Ann
Prayers and Blessings coming your way.
amen! we know all too well the hazards of self employment and I trust you are on the path to a better job – like you – we believe that no matter how dark the storm – there is light just beyond it.
Hugs and prayers for you, good luck with the job situation, God will work things out for you both!
Amy
Thank-you for writing about your situation and in the midst of it still working hard to keep the right attitude and spirit and thanking and praising Him in the storm. I will continue to pray for you, and especially remember to pray for you when I wash my hands with the lovely soap you made.
p.s. Our son got out of the Marines and was preparing for a job that is no longer available, so it is as you said, there are so many more un-recorded unemployed or living on much, much less income than they need just to pay basic bills, yet it is good to read encouraging and uplifting posts and articles that put this all into perspective.God has provided for him and it seems He has provided for you.
Yes, I agree with you.
Positive thinking is very important. You can do well if you set your mind to it.
Becky, things did turn out better than expected! There is nothing like support from a friend.
Sometimes we can only put one foot in front of the other, Martha Ann. When we do that, we are doing something positive.
Thank you, Joanna.
Linda Sue, there is always light amongst the darkness. Isn’t it beautiful?
Amy, you touched my heart today. I will always remember something my boss said to me as she as facing a tough time in her life, “The strength does not come from me.”
Kathy B., yes ma’am, I am full of praise despite any hardship. It can be done, and I do it. I went through a rough time for a while, but it quickly became obvious to me that I was letting my faith grow weak. Either I did it, or I didn’t, and I chose to run with it!
I am glad your son’s situation has improved.
Just in general, I feel we can condemn ourselves to even more hardship just by our own sour attitudes.
I hope to write more on progress in the near future. Today was spectacular. I am still shaking my head in amazement.
Thank you…you are wonderful friends! We are living in awesome times that allows us to connect so easily.
Stacey, I agree. Temporary frustration is fine with me…but I have to pick up and move forward. We all do. Positive thinking is powerful.
You always have such a positive spirit! That and prayer is what’ll get ya’ll through this tough time. I know that you are an encouragement to your husband now and we all encourage you to keep putting one foot in front of the other, and keep looking up to the Lord for guidance. Keeping you in prayer…
Vickie
