This morning brought a few surprises from nature. A return of winter with a coating of snow on the ground. And beautiful deer foraging in the lower pasture. They don’t know the calender still says it is winter as they live their daily lives, I suppose we shouldn’t either. Everything happens in its own time.
Happiness happens in its own time too…but being positive is a decision that we make. I chose to look at the beauty today. Sunshine and green grass is absent, but again, in its own time.
Happiness is an emotion…being positive is an action.
All season are beautiful for the person that carries happiness within. – Horace Friess
we have a small herd of deer who are frequent visitors – always causes us to stop and watch them – appear so delicate and yet survive in a world which isn’t all that hospitable to them. Good choice – in any situation – we can be “under the circumstances “or choose to be happy – happy isn’t a feeling it is a choice (I’m preaching to myself here!) thanks for sharing your happy winter thoughts
It goes back to the way of thinking, we can only change what we can (our thought process), and accept what we cannot.
I have no problem with hunting, but I do wish the deer had a better way of living, without over-populating. I am so soft-hearted for animals. I simply want each and every one to live, thrive. But, in our world it isn’t so easy to do. The highways are littered with dead deer, which is a constant reminder that human safety (behind the wheel) is much at risk. Your statment “survive in a world which isn’t all that hospitable” is so very true.
Nice picture, we see deer at our back gate every day! I have just gotten used to bundle up again to do chores since being away for almost 2 weeks and we were in the warm South so we didn’t need to layer much, mostly in short sleeves and capris the whole trip in Georgia and Florida but we did have to buy long sleeved shirts and sweatshirt jackets while at Disney World though on March 1st since it was getting quite chilly in the late afternoon, early evening.
I just finished posting 7 blog posts from our vacation.

Hi Mary,
Very nice photo. We have some deer that we encounter in the open fields in the Pacific Northwest–northwest of Seattle. They are amazing to watch. So delicate and graceful. They remind us of the beauty of nature that is all around us.
We’ve also had the snow here and it’s been stunning. It adds so much much character to the landscape.
Thanks for sharing this!

Michael, I cannot imagine life without animals, nor nature. I am glad you get to enjoy it as well. Thank you for your comments! Mary
So true, everything in its time according to the book of Ecclesiastes.
My sister-in-law’s home right next door has a doe ( of the deer type ) living in her little enclosed paddock. The deer is un-afraid of us too. Guess she knows hunting season is over. It is wonderful to see her as we stroll by, however, the deer has completely eaten the tender branches off the fruit trees, and everything edible in the gardens. I hope the doe does not mosey on next door to our place!
I would imagine deer are a lot like goats, they destroy certain trees. Learned my lesson the hard way!
Beautiful post! And beautiful picture!!
Thank you, I needed the reminder!!
