My father was in the United States Army, therefore, we traveled frequently.
One blessing in my young life was to live in France for two years.
Many memories of France linger, such as our visit to Paris, French pastries (nothing compares), learning the French language in grade school, school field trips to château’s – the mazes and moats that surrounded the beautiful stone buildings, gypsies travelling in covered wagons, and open-air city markets.
I stumbled across this photo and felt a surge of abiance. Goodness…for someone that does not want to travel, I could definitely visit a place like this!
Awesome.. there are sometimes perks to being in the Army.. just got totake advantage of tyhem and look at the best of everything… I am glad you did! Thanks for the photo. The home is awesome
I was young when we were overseas, in grade school. It left a mark on me. I often forget, though, until I see a photo like this one. It grabbed at my attention!
Lovely picture! We’ve been traveling every once in awhile by car mostly though. In fact we’re headed for Georgia then Florida, a week from Tuesday! We’re leaving on February 22nd when my Dad gets home from work then staying somewhere then on the 23rd we’ll arrive in Georgia then drive half way to Florida on the 24th with my brother and his family then arrive in Florida on the 25th and pick-up my sister from the airport on the 25th in the afternoon. Our family reunion is on the 26th.

Your trip sounds busy! I know you are excited and hope you have a wonderful time, you and your family.
Thanks Mary, we’re looking forward to this trip, it will be busy next week but it will also be fun to be with family! Right now my maternal Grandma is in the hospital and my maternal Uncle called yesterday afternoon to update us on her and she had pulled out her IV a couple of times. She’ll be 89 on March 3rd, she knows us sometimes. She asked me at Thanksgiving if she could be my Grandma and I told her she was my Grandma. My Mom’s brother is looking forward to this Florida trip as well and he has Power of Attorney for my Grandma (my Mom’s Mom and his Mom). There are just my Mom and her brother. My Grandpa has been gone for almost 5 years now and my Grandma misses him terribly as we all do, all of us grandkids are very close to our maternal grandparent’s.

What a neat little place!
Mysterious, curious, beautiful, peaceful….
All those things come to mind when looking at that picture.
It made me want to be in the car, riding with my parent’s again…seeing unusual and beautiful places. I agree, it looks peaceful.
You are truly blessed, my dad was also in the military, but we got to stay in the states (rats).
That is absolutely gorgeous.
With the right choosing of words, we moved about a lot. Sometimes we lived “on base.” In France we did not, which was a blessing. When we lived on base we sometimes changed quarters (living places) at least twice a year. It was a wonderful experience, going places, seeing things, and meeting a lot of different people, not one that everyone has in life. It can be difficult too. But, I wouldn’t go back and change it for the world.
This is such a pretty picture. I’m trying to figure out how they built that roof? I’ts awesome!!!
It is awesome! And then, you made me think…here’s a link to how to make a thatched roof. Can you imagine actually doing this, perhaps for a garden shed? A lot of work!
