Have you reached a point in your life where you realize how much you appreciate the small things?
We all have days when nothing seems to feel right. How about the times when the normal feels mundane? Then there are the days when the ordinary comes with newness.
One morning I was distributing hay. The morning was routine. I always watch for behaviour, to ensure each goat is well, but I am sure there are times when I stop noticing much of their common actions. That particular morning I heard their hooves as they approached. I heard an excited rumble of hoofbeats. I was filled with gratefulness. Such a small thing, the sound of hooves, but such a joyous thing to be able to notice and enjoy.
As we fall into the day-in and day-out patterns of our lives, I hope each of us notices something small to enrich the time we have here. The smallest of things can be a blessing.
Promise me, please. Enjoy!
I am so guilty of this Mary. I rush to feed my dogs, and just the other day i was pushing them out of my way to hurry on with daily chores when I stopped and looked down at them, their faces watching me closely , eagerly wanting my attention. I felt ashamed of myself, and remembered I have these dogs because i wanted them, and I love them…and what’s wrong with me?So I petted them, then went busily on with my chores. A little more appreciative…a little more. Yes, those every day things we most often do not enjoy and savor until we have them no more, then it is too late.
Yes, there is a difference between paying attention to what we are doing and enjoying the details of what we are doing, and both are necesssary to our well-being.
Have a great weekend, Kathy!
I SOOO agree with you, Mary.
It’s the simplest things that make us the happiest.
I know what you mean about the sound of hooves, too.
Sometimes it’s late evening when we get out to feed the horses, it’s already dark and we can’t see a thing. But we can hear them coming long before they get to where we are.
First, Becky, I want to say I have no idea how I missed replying to your responses! I read them and never commented. I hope you can accept my apology!
I am glad you share in the simple things. Where would we be without them?
I love watching our almost 3 month old kittens and I’m their Mom now since their Mom got really sick when they were about 5 weeks old but she is doing much better now! I love looking at God’s creation for every season in awe and it is just breath takingly beautiful in our valley!
Amy
Hi Amy! I am glad your cat is much better! It is pretty where I am at too. I am not sure we are seeing true fall colors this year because the weather has been so dry, but, the weather is absolutely perfect. Have a wonderful day!
No apology necessay, Mary!
We do what we can, when we can.
I have been too busy with homework to write posts.
When I must have a break from said homework, I usually spend time visiting my friend’s blogs.
I’ll stay in touch one way or another. tee hee
Yes, we’ll get there (stay in touch), one way or another.
I still need to apologize, though. A person doesn’t want to appear aloof. I think about my friend’s blogs often, I just don’t get there as often as I would like. But, life is life.
Busy!
