My husband and I laugh together, sometimes work together, and of course we like separate things as well. One difference is our tastes in food.
Recently I realized that I was not feeling up to par. I decided to take things by the reigns. The first step was a better diet.
How did a nearly 52-year-old woman get into the habit of eating potato chips with a sandwich for lunch? It isn’t exactly the perfect picture of a food full of health!
My husband does not like many vegetables. If it isn’t corn, green beans, or a ripe red tomato, it really isn’t pleasant in front of his eyes. He doesn’t like to see spinach, and he really sickens to the smell of vegetables cooking.
A week ago I went to the grocery and stocked up on frozen and canned vegetables. You should have seen that cart! I started taking vitamins and I began eating vegetables while my husband is at work. The first day I ate an entire can of turnip greens, like a ravished animal. They were so good!
Next week I am going to cook brussel sprouts, and then aerate the house as best as possible. Funny. Wish me luck!
The 4th of July weekend opened my eyes to several things, one was making sure I worked fun back into my life, another was the eating habits. It really was a refreshing weekend. I hope it was the same for you. Very much a blessing!
I am heading outside to enjoy the sunshine as soon as I post this…enjoying the balance in life!
My husband can’t tolerate the smell of cooking pinto beans. To me it brings back memories. I grew up on those.
Now that I have my blog reading caught up I can concentrate on other things.
Like exercise and eating healthier. Maybe spending a little time planning a weekly meal menu. I have been so busy for so long that we just eat on the fly. And that is not good.
Goodluck with your plan! What’s life if you can’t have a little fun? All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy, Right?
I forgot to add that I am back to drinking raw goat milk, a couple of cups a day. It is free. I have it fresh on the farm. And it is oh-so-good for the body, not to mention helps with ailments (diabetes, allergies, cholesterol and heart problems…).
Becky, you said that so well, girlfriend! Why live if we cannot enjoy it?
I need to catch up on blog reading myself.
The smells that come from cooking do bring back memories. Pinto beans, friend chicken, even liver and onions.
Eating chips with lunch is wrong? lol – yep it is and I’ve got the excess poundage to prove it. I also got into a habit of “something sweet” after meals – – so back to trying to balance – my husband loves most vegetables – not as keen on blackeyed peas but I can eat the can by myself with a big slab of Vidalia onion!
At my age the waistline is a target for potato chips. I have actually gained weight since started the healthier eating quest. I am not sure what is up with that, but no doubt it will reverse itself! My sister’s Weight Watcher leader used to say, “What you eat this week, goes to your hips the next.” Perhaps that is why I have gained!
Linda Sue, I guess we all need to change the habits now and then. We begin sliding off, and then are nudged to go back to being on track!
Vidalia onion…yum!
