I have always been interested in aroma.
Natural aroma holds several qualities that I adore, such as: memory (remembrance of special times and places), relaxation, grounding, and even uplifting properties.
Today I prepared a spicy rose and geranium blend solid perfume for a friend’s 74th birthday. I thought she might enjoy keeping the compact near her, even if all she does is open it now and then.
I made a special blend for myself of oakmoss, lavender and frankincense. I cannot describe the herbaceous scent any better than mossy and relaxing. I will tweak it slightly and add it to my online soap store within the next two weeks.
My natural perfumes will be available in solid, sprays, and dab on (rich) perfumes. The solid blends will be available first. I am allowing the latter two of the three to age, to allow the natural oils to “marry.”
Lesson learned: I made a perfume 8 weeks ago, on a whim, late one evening. If I find the recipe that I wrote down I will be elated. It is a great blend. I am down to a few drops and will likely not be able to repeat it!
I can barely wait to explore more blends and finally offer them for others to enjoy!
Can’t have perfumes here since my Mom can’t handle strong smells though because of her asthma.
Amy
Amy, most of the natural perfumes are not as invasive as synthetics, however, even the natural essences can set off asthma attacks.
Wow, your blends sound incredible – really amazing. You are actually inspiring me to pull out my box of ‘very expensive, little used’ essential oils and concretes to craft something special for the Soap Guild show! =)
Annie-Marie, I am passionate about the blending. I find it fun, yet, very much a “study.” I do not plop things together, I have to sniff, read, think about the end result (the dry out), how the essences will blend, how they will marry. I would love to hear about what you compose!
Mary,
She can handle the not so strong smelling perfumes, etc. and she can’t handle strong smelling candles.
That is what I like about natural perfume. It is a personal scent. It doesn’t scent the room. I am sensitive to certain ones myself, and the better quality, the less sensitive. Have a great day, Amy.
Mary, get busy on those perfumes. I am a parfum-aholic and would love to buy some natural scents. I’m not a fan of rose scents, but I like the woodsy and the lighter floral scents. I love Clinique’s Happy and Estee Lauder’s Romance and Coco Chanel’s Mademoiselle. Yum! Please let me know when they are on the market.
I’ll grease up those action wheels!
I did work on a perfume idea last night. Afterwards, funny, I thought it stunk. A few hours later it smelled terrific. Love how they evolve.
I will definitely let you know when I am ready!
