As a small business owner I find great joy in the various daily contacts that I make.
Many years ago I thought networking meant selling. It does not mean that at all! To network, you are communicating via a common thread.
The stone wall no longer holds anyone in. Networking can come from a blog post or comment, a tweet on Twitter, a post on Facebook, an email, or an actual conversation with a business owner, a banker, or it can be as simple as conversing with a person while standing in line at the post-office.
Owning an internet-based company in the country could be lonely. But it is not. I so much appreciate the contact. The contacts come with an added benefit, learning. Listen to your friends, your casual contacts, your customers. Really listen. We live in a fascinating world, a world full of brand-new knowledge, just waiting to be gained.
Who would ever think work could be so enjoyable?
My hope for everyone: work towards doing something you enjoy, and enjoy working it once you get there!
there’s the ticket! enjoying it once you get there. i’m one who enjoys the journey… maybe more than the actual arrival. hmmm…
The journey, yes, the feeling of I am doing something good for myself and my life. It will better me and my family in the long run.
That is exactly what I am working toward!
And I also love the networking too!
When you get the time, I hope to hear about your new adventure, school! I’ve caught bits and pieces on Facebook, Twitter, and in your blog posts. I have been very, very busy the past several months and do not get to comment on each and every blog post as I used to do!
The greatest gift is to enjoy your work. I wonder if I will ever have that feeling again?
Glad YOU have it every day.
You have special talents, Alix. I can see you firing something up. I remember you telling me that you were going to let things flow, but that you knew you were in a “transitional” stage in your life. It is good to have the freedom to be where you are at, at a time/place where you can clearly think about where you are at, and what you might want to do someday.
Mary,
No truer words have been shared. The fact that we enjoy what we do makes every single aspect of our lives better and I feel sorry for those who do not have the opportunity to embrace their works with the passion we do. I know when we decided that it would finally be OK for me to actually do what I wanted to earn a living, our bank account got smaller but our life became richer. The overflow is pretty cool too. Nothing makes my heart smile wider than to hear Hubby explaining what I do..in detail.
Thanks for sharing this today!
Hugs,
MaLinda
MaLinda, you said that so perfectly.
The world, and our own personal growth, opens up to us when we are happy and at peace.
I like your new header! The journey….the one I am still on, trying to make more of a go with my wool products! Hmmm, well, I am enjoying it very much, almost covering expenses with sales, but I am meeting a lot of new people and learning so much. Maybe one day I will see a profit!
Good morning, Kathy! I was hoping you would see this post. I thought of you too as I wrote it. Learning and enjoying it, makes a person live with more joy, satisfied with the work.
Mary, thanks for leaving a comment. I can only credit the changing ingredients in the foods you and I grew up eating. I know McDonalds used to taste better than it does. And Taco Bell never used to give me indigestion. I can’t even tolerate Burger King. I won’t eat at Hardy’s because their commercials are vulgar, but their food was no different before that. It’s not only cheaper to eat at home, but much, much safer!
See ya, Deb
Debbie, Burger King was the last one that I tried. I was fairly sick within 2 hours. I do not know what it is that bothers us, do you? I do not use much grease or fat at home, so perhaps that is it. Or perhaps (shhhh) it is middle-age. I didn’t say that, did I? Thanks Deb…loved your little bit of everything mixed up post, by the way!
