Natural Perfume Making
Is a degree, or at a minimal, chemistry studies a necessity for a person that wishes to make natural perfume? No.
Some individuals are more talented at creating blends than others, however, making a masterpiece normally happens after years and years of experience.
In my opinion, if a person is going to delve into natural perfume, or any type of essential oil usage, a base knowledge of essential oils is needed. Why? For health and safety reasons. It goes back to the fact that just because something is natural does not mean it is safe.
The natural perfume goal is to create a blend that is pleasant and safe for the wearer. A 3-day class, or a 3-hour class, can result in a good perfume. It can, but does not generally result in a perfume that receives accolades around the world.
Why did I bring all of this forward? Opinions are treasured, trust me. But I will stick to my guns that a degree is not needed to be creative.

I think so since we used a lot of them when doing our goat milk soap.
I agree. Perfumery is an art. You can always enhance your knowledge academically, but that does not always improve your art! In fact, it can sometimes spoil your creative drive. My son learned to play guitar by ear when he was eight years old. His elementary school music teacher kept telling me he should really be learning to play piano and read music first! Interestingly, the middle school teacher told me: “Nothing ruins a great guitar player faster than learning to read music!” I decided to to stick with the advice of the middle school teacher, and to this day my now 16-year-old is a brilliant musician who can improvise at the drop of a hat and has no use for sheet music!
Sometimes its great to just make something at home and have a sort of perfume invention in a day! Great invention.
It really is nice, Maegan. I do that too. I make one just for myself, just a quick blend, and it often is pleasing.

Many Aftel’s does a wonderful 3 day class. I am not sure if she has a class available for a longer period of time.
