Creativity, like life itself, seems to have its cycles. I find it interesting.
Blog writing has been difficult for me recently. What has worked from time to time is to tote my laptop when I am away from the shop and the farm. I will then hear or see something that totally inspires writing.
Soaping follows the same type of path. Creativity does not always happen in the shop. Fresh ideas pop up after I smell, read, hear, away from the soap studio itself. Nature often does it.
A person cannot force creative thoughts.
What inspires you to write or try something new (or perhaps crafty)?
When are you most creative?
Do you find creativity to be an important need in your life?
Before I hit the publish button, I’ll throw in one more thought. Sound sleep. Do your creative juices wane or flow when snoozing has been plentiful? What about the idea of sleeping with a pad of paper and pencil nearby, so those 2 AM brainstorms can be penned?
I cannot count the times that I’ve awakened with a thought that I have to jot down or go immediately to the computer.
I carry a notepad with me so I can write down ideas, too.
I don’t like to post without pictures, so I usually have a camera with me at all times. So usually sights that I can capture with my camera are where I get my ideas.
I have found that I write better when I first get up in the morning.
Funny thing….sometimes I don’t remember half of what I write and post on the blog because I’m half asleep when I write it.
If it has been awhile since I’ve “created” anything, I get a longing to “make” something.
Right now, I have 3.5 hours to kill between classes. The homework I have requires my computer. So I’m stuck in my truck with nothing to do.
I’ve started crocheting again. I can take it anywhere.
And our town has started a small farmer’s market that meets every other week, they’re hoping it will get bigger. There are people there who sell food, plants and homemade things.
I thought maybe I could make a little extra money with my 3.5 hours of time to kill.
Now I just have to get them finished up and ready to display. And find the rest of my yarn. It seems I’ve hidden it really well. LOL
The crocheting sounds like a good plan, Becky. What type of thing are you making?
My nieces made handcrafted washcloths for me (and some to sell). They were great! 100% cotton. I love them and hardly ever use regular terry washcloths now.
I carry a camera in my purse as well, especially since I dodged back down to a flip phone. Now, remembering to use it is another issue! It is so easy to take a photo, plug it in, download, etc… . You know how fast it is, being that you take a lot of pictures.
Your comment is NOT too long. The conversation is treasured!
Wow, that was a lot of writing. Sorry!
I make those 100% cotton wash cloths, too.
I make oven mitts and hot pads.
And do you remember those kitchen towels from Grandma’s day with the crocheted top that wraps around a cabinet handle and is buttoned so it will hang there waiting for someone to dry their hands?
I make those, but without the button. Mine have a ruffle that holds it in place. It’s hard to explain.
But they are very pretty.
I usually give away all that I make. I have sold a few. But now that my friends are all stocked up, maybe I can make a few bucks. LOL
I remember those kitchen towels! Your’s sound great. My favorite kitchen towels are cotton, like the feed sacks. A few are similar to the homespun plaid fabric. I bet a person could crochet them as well. Can you imagine the fall colors? Good luck with your sales!
