It is an overcast day, not overly warm, but a bit humid.
The scent of lilac is permeating the air. And they are beautiful.
The lilacs are huge this year, spanning the back yard (top of the hill) like hedges planted for privacy. Of course, the bees are having a hey day, but they allowed me to get just close enough to take a few photos.
If only I could bottle this beautiful scent. I wouldn’t allow anything to adulterate it. It would make excellent soap, lotion and perfume! Mmmmm…I can just smell and see it now!
Enjoy your weekend!
How lovely! We were at the Assisted Living visiting both of my Grandma’s for the April birthday party and the daughter of one of the ladies that live there brought her a bouquet of lilacs and it smelled heavenly at our table!
Amy
Even in the heavy rain last night I could smell them. They do not last long though.
Hi Kathy – the lilacs are gorgeous! I think it’s too hot here for me to have them. Don’t know.
You should try to bottle some of that fragrance for us in your lotions and soaps DEFINITELY!!!
I’m glad the bees allowed you to get close enough for pictures with stinging you!
Lilac’s differ each year. This is a good spring for them. I think the lack of cold snaps has helped.
Mary, I appreciate you posting the picture of the lilac bush. Just this afternoon, Rick and I were riding in the truck, and we passed a bush like this but couldn’t identify it. They are not native to this area, but someone liked it enough to purchase and plant one. It’s beautiful. Now I can tell Rick what it is. That was a quick, little education, and I thank you for it.
When I posted that photo I never thought about lilacs not being common in all areas in the early spring. I realize we start our growing seasons earlier and later, depending upon where we live, but didn’t think about the plant not being native in all areas. They are beautiful, and they smell terrific. Some years we do not get to enjoy them as much because of late spring frosts. This year is not one of those years.
I couldn’t agree more. I love the smell of lilacs, and did make enquiries about EO’s absolutes, but there do not seem to be any which is a shame.
I did buy some lilac fragranced soap in Canada a while ago, and although it must have been scented with something synthetic, it still smelled wonderful.
Manufactures seem to do a pretty good job with lilac fragrance.
I know, the EO situation is a shame. Just wasn’t meant to be.
The scent of lilacs in the air just does not hang around long enough. One frosty morning comes along and then the scent dies off. We can anticipate next year.
There has got to be a way to capture the scent.
Sounds like a research topic to me.
They do smell heavenly!
They cannot capture it, Becky.
Hope you are having a good week!
