All About Goats from Annie, Hammering It Out

September 20, 2013 by Mary Humphrey

hammering the books out (via dreamstme.com)

My book, temporarily called All About Goats from Annie, is firmly on the road of progress.

Never did I think I would see 71 pages of goat health related reference material in one chapter, but it happened. Whew! I have been refining the content, completing the research, which has amounted to more time devoted to one chapter than the entire 36,000 words I have so far written in the book.

At this point, I have set a goal to publish by October 31, 2014, with that being the latest date, hoping for a sooner release. For those of you waiting for the book, it is not going to take much longer!

Other writing projects on my white board:

Advanced Soapmaking: Removing the Mystery, co-authored with Alyssa Middleton, is soon to be released. We hope to have the book proof in our hands within 7-10 days.

Annie’s Adventures On the Farm (temporarily named), a youth fiction novelette, is nearly 80% complete. It will set sail after All About Goats from Annie is published.

Hammering the words out, onwards!

I comment when I especially enjoy a article on a blog
or I have something to contribute to the discussion. It is a result of the fire displayed in the article I looked at.
And on this post All About Goats from Annie, Hammering It Out | Annies Goat Hill Handcrafted Soaps.
I was excited enough to post a comment πŸ˜› I actually do have 2 questions for you if you
do not mind. Is it just me or does it give the impression like a few of the responses appear
like coming from brain dead people? πŸ˜› And, if you are writing
on additional online social sites, I’d like to follow you.

Could you make a list the complete urls of all your social pages like your twitter feed,
    Facebook page or linkedin profile?

      Hello –

I do not think any of the responses appear to be from brain dead people. People have questions, and thy are all good ones.

The social sites that I write to are listed on my about us tabs. You may contact me via Facebook or Twitter by clicking on the icons and feeds listed on the right hand side of the home page of this blog.

Thank you so much for your comments and interest in Annies Goat Hill.

First off I want to say terrific blog! I had a quick question in which I’d like to ask if
you do not mind. I was interested to find out how you center yourself and clear your
mind prior to writing. I have had a difficult time clearing my thoughts in getting my thoughts
out. I do enjoy writing however it just seems like the first 10 to 15 minutes are usually
wasted simply just trying to figure out how to begin. Any suggestions or tips?
    Many thanks!

If you’ve wasted 10 to 15 minutes trying to figure out how to begin, you’ve not wasted much time in comparison to the hours you will spend in writing. Of course, 10-15 minutes a day adds up over a period of days and weeks.

My tips to get focused at the keyboard are: write when you are relaxed, in the setting that you are most comfortable, and do not allow distractions. Do not open email, or go to social media before you begin writing. Take a handwritten outline of what you are writing to the table with you. If you have a scene to write, have it planned out on paper before you hit the keyboard. If you have factual research to do, do it before you begin typing text.

      Hope that helps.
